Trendy colors come and go and eventually will look outdated and old-fashioned. Thankfully, traditional white kitchen cabinets are a look that never goes out of style and can be mixed with modern details to update your home quickly and easily. While details like backsplashes and countertops are expensive and time-consuming fixes, the right mixture will look stunning for years, even as styles and tastes change.
Switching out your hardware is one of my favorite ways to give your kitchen a quick update. Glamorous gold or shiny brass are extremely popular right now and give a room a luxurious look that looks more expensive than it is. Or you could focus on a few statement lights that draw your eye and pop against the neutral backdrop of a white kitchen. Regardless of your personal design preference, we promise white cabinets are the way to go.

02 of Delicate Trim for an Elegant Kitchen Design
PHOTO:
If you’re worried about white cabinets appearing too plain, choose a design with trim work or paneling that adds a more decorative touch. This all-white kitchen showcases this technique with classic white cabinets, a glossy white backsplash, and light gray counters. The delicate trim helps add elegance to the overall look of the pace.
03 of Farmhouse Kitchen With Modern Details
PHOTO:
Adding interesting details to give a dull kitchen more pizazz is extremely easy. These distressed cabinets are perfect for a farmhouse design, while the black hexagonal backsplash gives it a modern edge. Long black handles are another simple switch to make a space appear more contemporary. The clear stained glass window above the sink provides a touch of texture, perfectly matching the wreath hung at the top of the window frame.
04 of Autumnal Glow in Warm White Kitchen
PHOTO:
Warm shades of white are ideal for the fall season when rich reds, oranges, and yellows are heavily featured in our decor. The way the natural light softly filters through the sheer curtains infuses this white kitchen with a gentle, ethereal glow. I always prefer adding a few countertop decorations to freshen up my spaces each season, similar to the jug of autumnal leaves and orange pumpkins decorating these countertops.
05 of Large Kitchen Window and Simple Decor
PHOTO:
If I could design my own home, I would be sure to add a large window over the kitchen sink. Filling a room with natural light is my favorite way to showcase my style and gives me ample opportunities to enjoy nature while immersed in household chores. With such a large window, your decor can be simple, with a few stylish corbels and a vase of pink roses to accompany the outdoor views.
06 of White Cabinets With Gold Hardware
PHOTO:
I dream of built-in cabinets surrounding my stove as I think it gives a room a custom look far from ordinary. Glass front doors also provide more opportunities to display treasures and curiosities, particularly when they stay consistent with your color palette. Using gold hardware adds a hint of glamour that elevates your style to a new level.
07 of Cottage-core White Kitchen With Floral Accents
PHOTO:
Farmhouse or cottage-core style demands all-white cabinets and lots of floral details. You’ll need to find small ways to introduce contrast when pairing white cupboards with white backsplash and countertops. Otherwise, the design can look washed out and bland. Small black knobs and warm wood details are the perfect accessories to achieve this look.
08 of Cool, Modern Kitchen Design
PHOTO:
I have always enjoyed the look of concrete countertops for the modern vibe they bring to a space. These gray countertops introduce a more contemporary look to this white kitchen, with the cool silver fixtures adding to the sleek interior. Two leather stools and stacked wooden trays accompany a large potted plant to boost the room’s warm tones.
09 of Black Countertops With Traditional White Kitchen Cabinets
PHOTO:
I have black countertops in my kitchen, which I adore for the dramatic look they give the room. I don’t like my builder-grade wooden cabinets that make the entire space appear dark and closed in. I’m considering painting my kitchen cabinets white to help the room feel brighter and more spacious. I like the look of this kitchen with its contrasting shades and white countertop accessories that play off the gray tile backsplash so well.
10 of Natural Textures in White Kitchen
PHOTO:
If you’re designing an all-white kitchen, you’ll want to include some natural textures to help give movement and life to your design. Without this, the whole room can appear flat and one-dimensional. I suggest choosing a classic subway tile in natural stone, like the light gray seen here. The light contrast and subtle veining add a charm and refinement that help the design pop.
11 of Seamless Silver Fixtures and Hardware
PHOTO:
Statement light will appear even more noticeable when you hang them in a white kitchen since everything else appears to blend together. Selecting lantern-style pendant lights to match the kitchen faucet, appliances, and fixtures is an easy way to make your home look like a professional designer styled it. Don’t forget to decorate your hood vent with a seasonal wreath to mix up with decorations!
12 of White and Gray Herringbone Backsplash
PHOTO:
Personally, I adore the herringbone pattern for a kitchen backsplash, especially when it’s in a natural stone style that looks clean and natural. The light gray looks beautiful beside the expansive white countertops and pristine cabinetry. The gray tile floors and silver appliances are classic farmhouse elements you won’t regret in your home.
13 of Classic Brown and White Kitchen Style
PHOTO:
Brown doesn’t appear on any trending colors list; nevertheless, it is still a classic color that deserves its due. The brown granite countertops and backsplash look timeless and refined, especially when partnered with traditional white kitchen cabinets and white accessories. The glass light fixtures are eye-catching but don’t detract from the rest of the design.
14 of Adding Texture and Contrast to a White Kitchen
PHOTO:
Adding character to a room is as easy as exposing paneling and illuminating it with carefully placed recessed lights. When a white room lacks interesting details, incorporate them with textures and rich wood floors to emphasize contrast. Stylish light fixtures are also vital to help include exciting accents.
15 of Classic Subway Tile for an Enduring Design
PHOTO:
Backsplash can be tricky to decide, and you want to be careful to walk the fine line between updated and too trendy. It’s not easy to remove the backsplash tile and switch it out, so you want to select something that will still appear current for many years while avoiding the trap of looking dated in a year. White subway tile is a great compromise if you want something that will stand the test of time as it doesn’t clash with anything. These white cabinets and natural stone countertops wouldn’t look right with anything else!
16 of Simple Hardware Update for a Trendy Style
PHOTO:
While white cabinets won’t go out of style soon, handles and hardware can make your whole kitchen look dated if you’re not careful. Bronze and gold metallics are extremely stylish right now and can be a simple and relatively inexpensive way to give your home a quick facelift. Mix these metals with wood details for a custom and luxurious look that is very up-to-date.
17 of Decorative Kitchen With Small Details
PHOTO:
I always find arabesque backsplashes quaint and charming, thanks to their decorative shape and beautiful pattern. They add just a hint of design to this otherwise basic kitchen. The simple addition of glass storage jars and a cake plate to display soap and cleaning supplies helps emphasize the traditional kitchen design.
18 of Vintage Pieces for a Lived-in Look
PHOTO:
Sometimes, a new build can look untouchable and too pristine, making it feel more like a museum than a home. If that’s the case, select a few vintage pieces to add an aged effect to your design. Potted plants are another great way to help you put down roots in a new home, both literally and figuratively.
19 of White Cabinets With Small Details
PHOTO:
Nobody can deny that white kitchens are stunning, so you want to be selective with your hardware and fixtures to elevate the gorgeous details instead of hiding them away. Black handles are the ideal accent to add depth, while bright pops of color will appear even more dramatic in a neutral space. Gray and white quartz countertops will always be my favorite, thanks to their timeless and chic appearance.
20 of Butcherblock Countertops in Country Kitchen
PHOTO:
My dream kitchen would absolutely include butcherblock countertops because I love the warmth and character they add to a room. Combined with classic white cabinets and a simple backsplash, they draw your focus and make a stunning focal point. Those simple details make the difference between a house and a home.
21 of Classic Farmhouse Aesthetic
PHOTO:
Brown countertops can easily seem outdated, but not if you partner them with white cabinets to give them a crisp new look. Capitalize on the farmhouse look by hanging small lettered signs and rustic decor along the countertops while laying a vintage rug over the hardwood floors. Classic homes don’t need to be redesigned with every passing trend; instead, choose a traditional look that will look good for years.
22 of Blending Old and New
PHOTO:
Subway tile may be classic, but square backsplashes are making a comeback. Their clean lines and symmetrical layout are a great way to add a hint of modernity to any space. I particularly enjoy how this kitchen designer blended old and new with vintage wooden doors and crisp white cabinetry. Small antique decorations on the hood vent are the final touches to make the space feel unchanging and connected to the past.
23 of Country Kitchen With Rustic Details
PHOTO:
Choose just a few basic elements to feature wood if you want to give a warm and rustic twist to your kitchen design. The wooden hood vent and decorative piece above the kitchen sink add a simple charm to this kitchen. The large island with a brown countertop is perfect for family gatherings and quick dinners after a long and busy day.
24 of White Eat-in Kitchen
PHOTO:
Eat-in kitchens can quickly appear crowded and hard to maneuver, so you’ll want to make it feel as spacious as possible without sacrificing functionality. White reflects light, automatically helping rooms appear larger, making it an excellent option for tight spaces. Select a farmhouse table with white chairs to maximize this effect.
25 of Kitchen Countertop Décor With Chinoiserie Pottery
PHOTO:
Spotless white cabinetry is accompanied by elegant chinoiserie decor in this beautiful farmhouse kitchen. The glass-front cabinet doors allow you to organize and display your prized pottery. The gray patterns in the white walls mimic the deep navy patterns of the chinoiserie pottery.
26 of Brick Backsplash Kitchen Wall Décor
PHOTO:
For an original take on a traditional kitchen element, this designer chose limewash brick for their backsplash in place of tile. On the far side of the room stands a wainscotted wall with delicate picture frames that match the brick backsplash and white cabinetry.
