There are a few ways to give your brick fireplace a modern makeover. Many homeowners will DIY a limewash brick fireplace to give their home a stunning facelift. Although brick is a durable material, it can visibly age over time. Over the years, a brick fireplace may lose its crisp edges and fade into a dull color.
Limewashing is a popular way of updating aged brick. Limewash is made from powdered limestone that has been treated with water. When painted over brick, this thin mixture creates a soft, white coating that also provides protection against the elements.
The final look can vary and will depend on the application. For example, many farmhouse homes will aim for the look of a rustic painted brick fireplace, where the natural color of the brick still peeks through the white coating.
